San Diego county has been hit hard this month with the disappearance and discovery of Chelsea King and now the discovery of Amber Dubois. What makes these situations hurt so much more is that it feels like they could have been avoided.
With the state in financial turmoil and our city no better off, we have seen many of our basic safety services hit hard with cutbacks.
It makes me sick to my stomach to know that the attempted attack in December wasn’t shared with anyone in the community. That’s a tragedy in itself. It is easy to become angry and want to blame local, county, and state agencies. But it’s at times like these when the motto I give my own children, “Be about solutions, not problems.” has come full circle. It is time for us as a community to start the healing process and do what we can to keep this from happening to any more of our children.
